Unified Messaging with Microsoft Outlook

Free MAPI Connector

For full access to fastmetrics™ collaboration services from within Microsoft Outlook: email, calenders, contact and address lists, we recommend that you configure Microsoft Outlook using the free MAPI connector. You will have to download this and configure it.

Configure Microsoft Outlook

You can also configure Microsoft Outlook using POP3, IMAP or HTTP, but only MAPI provides full synchronization of all your important information: email, calenders, contact and address lists. These other protocols only provide support for email services.

Note that MAPI is not supported with Outlook Express.

Understanding MAPI Synchronization

MAPI keeps your inbox folders synchronized with our collaboration server. Once MAPI is installed, a full synchronization with our server will be performed. This process can take up to several hours depending on how many emails are currently in your inbox.

During MAPI synchronization there is no indication that MAPI is working and MS Outlook will display “Not Responding” in the title bar. However, you can access your email using webmail during this time.

After the initialization synchronization, MAPI will only sync when user deletes, modifies or re-arranges any of the inbox folders.

If you are going to delete, modify or re-arrange your folders, we recommend that you do this at the end of your workday. This will give MAPI a chance to synchronize with our collaboration server while you are away from your computer.

To see if activity is occurring, check your network performance using ‘Task Manager”. (Ctrl + Alt + Delete > Start Task Manager > Processes Tab or Networking Tab).

MS Outlook may be in a “Not Responding” state for up to 2 hours while MAPI is caching all the mail.
